What happened:
- It's official: Joe Biden became the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee tonight, more than three decades after his first White House run.
- Former second lady Jill Biden addressed the country for the first time as the prospective first lady, giving a deeply personal portrait of her husband.
- Joe Biden drew on party elders — including former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.
- Younger Democrats also got some of the spotlight, including Stacey Abrams and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
