CALIFORNIA: Sex abuse of female workers

A new report says female immigrant farmworkers are commonly subject to sexual harassment and assault, in part because their immigration status makes them fearful of reporting an offender, particularly an employer. The Human Rights Watch report included interviews with farmworkers, attorneys and advocates in seven states. An estimated 630,000 of the 3 million who perform farm work are female.

TB patient arrested

Authorities took the unusual step of jailing and charging a tuberculosis patient who they say refused to take medication to keep his disease from becoming contagious. Health officials said Armando Rodriguez, 34, of Stockton has active pulmonary tuberculosis, which can include coughing up blood or phlegm. Rodriguez has been noncompliant with his treatment and could become contagious as a result, Ginger Wick, San Joaquin County nursing director, said.

FLORIDA: Zimmerman injuries listed

Court records show George Zimmerman had a pair of black eyes, a nose fracture and two cuts to the back of his head after the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, 17. ABC News reports the medical records were part of evidence released Tuesday that prosecutors have in the second-degree murder case against Zimmerman. He has pleaded not guilty and claims self-defense in the Feb. 26 shooting. He was treated Feb. 27 at Altamonte Family Practice. Some of the injuries were previously reported by The Associated Press based on video of Zimmerman at a jail sally port.

WASHINGTON STATE: Dad-in-law guilty of voyeurism

A jury in Tacoma convicted Steve Powell yesterday on all 14 charges in a voyeurism case that stemmed from an investigation into the 2009 disappearance of his daughter-in-law, Susan Powell, a Utah mother still missing. Authorities had long focused on Susan Powell's husband, Josh, during the missing-persons investigation, but he killed himself and their two young children earlier this year.
