NEW MEXICO: Some fire evacuees to return

Residents and business owners will be allowed to return to the privately run ghost town of Mogollon on Monday as fire crews battling the largest wildfire in the state's recorded history continued to make progress. The town was evacuated May 26 as extreme wind fueled the Whitewater-Baldy Complex fire, now at 377 square miles. The Catron County Sheriff's Office decided to lift the evacuation order because crews were able to build some containment lines on the fire's western flank, Tara Ross, a spokeswoman for crews fighting the fire, said Sunday. The ghost town will open to the public again on Wednesday. Ross said that milder weather on upcoming days should allow firefighters to increase containment. As the more than 1,200 firefighters were making progress, the fire had been 17 percent contained.

WASHINGTON: Watergate release OKd

The Department of Justice said some materials sealed as part of the court case against seven men involved in the 1972 Watergate burglary should be released. The agency responded to a request by history professor Luke Nichter of Texas A&M University-Central Texas in Killeen, who is seeking access to materials he believes could help answer lingering questions about the burglary that led to President Richard Nixon's resignation. Justice attorney Elizabeth Shapiro wrote in a court document filed Friday that the office would not oppose the release of at least some documents. "Forty years after the break-in . . . no good reason exists to keep sealed many of the judicial records created," she wrote.

PENNSYLVANIA: Pope sets 2015 Philly visit

The next World Meeting of Families will be held in 2015 in Philadelphia, Pope Benedict XVI announced during a Sunday Mass in Milan celebrating the seventh such gathering of families from around the world. The pope sent his greetings to Archbishop Charles Chaput and the Catholics "of that great city" and said he was looking forward to meeting them in 2015.
