New report complied after Senate hearings requests changes to Common Core curriculum

There could be some changes coming to the state's controversial Common Core curriculum.
A new report has been compiled after five statewide Senate hearings regarding the controversial program's standards. Some changes that are being requested include aligning assessments to curriculum actually implemented, delaying the use of the Education Data Portal for a year and increasing funds for the professional development of teachers.
State Sen. John Flanagan says there's not much that can be done about the testing for students in grades 3-8, including the ELA, math and science exams.
"All of those tests we have to administer," said Flanagan. "Those are federally mandated tests. That's why I think we have to have a dialogue with our federal representatives."
The report, including the list of proposed recommendations, is being submitted to the Board of Regents, the state education commissioner and the governor.
