Album review: '7 Days of Funk' by Dâm-Funk & Snoopzilla -- 3 stars

Forget five golden rings – ’tis the season of funk. So declares the Cali connection of DJ/ producer Damon Riddick (aka Dâm-Funk) and Snoop Lion -- billed here as Snoopzilla -- who team up here for a selection of cosmic, George Clinton-worshipping cuts of classic, trunk-rattling West Coast funk, complete with hand-drawn jacket art that cries out "1992." From the sternum-shaking, Gap Band bass squiggle of "Faden Away," to the laid-back gangster lean of "Ride," the astral sheen of Riddick's synthetic machinery and Snoop's ageless, effortless flow unspool in ways that feel foretold --- there are neither surprises nor soft spots to be discovered. In a season of sap, this immaculate set of stone-solid grooves is a reason to rejoice.
