Autopsy results awaited in death of Brownsville mom and newborn
A 34-year-old woman and her 11-day-old baby were discovered dead in the woman's Brownsville apartment Thursdaymorning around 10 a.m., police said.
Margarine Lyons, 34, of 50 Legion St., was found by her brother, who also lived at the address, and who went into her bedroom to check on her. "She was found unconscious or unresponsive, laying on top of the child. It appears she died and at some point rolled over," on the baby, which in turn led to the death of the infant, probably by suffocation, said a police spokesman.
Lyons was pronounced dead at the scene. The infant was whisked to Brookdale Hospital, but could not be saved. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine how Lyons and her baby, Preston Warren Alexander, died.
There were no signs of trauma to either Lyons or her child, said police.
