Mayor Michael Bloomberg still has J. Lo's back -- even when it comes to her commercials.

TheSmokingGun.com first reported last fall that Jennifer Lopez never actually stepped foot in the south Bronx to shoot a Fiat 500 ad praising her home borough, instead shooting her close-ups in California.

In light of the recent negative press about Fiat, Bloomberg on Monday brushed aside critics: "Big deal that she didn't make the ad in the Bronx," he told reporters. "She made it in California. What's the difference? It's the message that matters."

Hizzoner publicly gushed over Lopez in 2003, when she appeared with him at a City Hall news conference.
