Brooklyn man charged with selling guns to undercover cop

The Brooklyn district attorney Wednesday indicted a 43-year-old Bushwick man for allegedly selling illegal guns trafficked from North Carolina to an undercover NYPD officer.

Prosecutors said Christopher "Country" McPhaul sold ammunition and 30 firearms -- among them two 9 mm semi-automatic pistols, a .357 magnum revolver and a .22 caliber pistol -- to an undercover cop with the NYPD's Firearms Investigation Unit on 10 separate occasions. McPhaul allegedly got the weapons from the Fayetteville, N.C., area and brought them to Brooklyn for sale.

"That these guns came to New York City through the iron pipeline should not come as a surprise considering 90% of crime guns recovered in the five boroughs come from out of state," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said in a statement.

McPhail was arrested Oct. 4 in Brooklyn upon a return from North Carolina. He was hit with criminal sale of a firearm and more than 100 related charges. He has yet to be arraigned on the indictment, and no date has been set, a spokesman for the district attorney's office said.
