Brooklyn toddler's death ruled a homicide
The death of a 2-year-old Brooklyn boy was ruled a homicide Saturday, with the city medical examiner's office saying the child had multiple blunt-impact injuries and internal bleeding.
No charges had been filed in connection with the death of Aiyden Davis, who was rushed to Interfaith Medical Center on Friday night after a call to 911 from his mother's Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment, New York City police said.
The child's mother and the mother's boyfriend were being questioned Saturday by police. Police had not released their names.
Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner's office, said the cause of the toddler's death was "blunt-impact injuries to the head, torso and extremities with liver lacerations and internal bleeding."
Police said a man called 911 from the mother's apartment shortly before 10 p.m. Friday and said the boy was breathing but was unresponsive. Medics took the boy to Interfaith, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Hospital staff called police less than an hour later, after finding bruises, some of them old, on the boy's body, police said.
A spokesman for the city's Administration for Children's Services said the agency had not been called to the mother's address before but now was investigating.
"There is no known history with ACS for this mother," spokesman Michael Fagan said.
