Like the hours-long tasting menu of a venerated chef, the eighth album from chamber-pop group Radar Brothers is a cascade of richness doled out in tiny morsels. With a decidedly languid pace that nevertheless feels relentless in its syrupy progress, "Eight" churns through cyclic washes of raw, overdriven guitars and pulsing drum patterns that coalesce around the gently acerbic lines of main songwriter Jim Putnam. From the buzzy chug of "Reflections," to the gentle wash of pedal steel in "Couch," the feel here is one of assured sophistication.
