SciCafe: Which Came First: The Bird or the Bird Brain?

You think pigeons are bad? Imagine a Tyrannosaurus Rex in midair. New research shows a deeper evolutionary connection between dinosaurs and birds, indicating that dinosaurs may have evolved the brainpower needed for flight long before they actually took to flying as birds. American Museum of Natural History paleontologist Mark Norell and research associate Amy Balanoff will discuss their latest findings, including iridescent feathers and skull comparisons, at the latest installment of the SciCafe. (Wednesday, 7 p.m., doors at 6:30 p.m., FREE with cash bar, 21+, American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West at 79th St., enter at 77th St., 212-769-5100, amnh.org)
