City cuts group ride taxi stands on UES, UWS and Midtown

The city has decided to close three of its group ride taxi stands after only seven months, according to published reports.
The stands, which were on the Upper East Side, the Upper West Side and Midtown, saw very little business, despite high initial hopes from city officials.
“They simply have not worked,” Taxi and Limousine Commissioner chief David Yassky reportedly said.
The group ride stand at Port Authority, which reportedly gets about 20 fares a day, will stay open, as will on at St. George Ferry Terminal on Staten Island.
The stands were created in March and offered reduced-fare rides, at either $3 or $4 per person.
