The Foo Fighters are officially on hiatus, frontman Dave Grohl confirmed Tuesday.

In a letter posted on the band's Facebook page, Grohl reaffirmed his remarks last weekend at a Central Park concert when he said he doesn't know when the 18-year-old band will play again.

"I'm not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it's a good thing for all of us to go away for a while," he wrote, adding that he will focus all his energy on his upcoming "Sound City documentary film and album."

Still, Grohl said "can't give up on this band."

"It's my life. It's my family. It's my world," he wrote.
