De Blasios to ponder move to Gracie Mansion from Brooklyn

The de Blasios will have a "very serious family discussion" about whether to leave their Brooklyn row house and move into Gracie Mansion overlooking the East River in Manhattan, Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio said Wednesday.

"As you may have noticed, there are four strong personalities in the family, one of whom, Mr. Dante de Blasio, has strong feelings about proximity to his high school," de Blasio said, referring to his 16-year-old son.

Dante de Blasio is a junior at Brooklyn Tech High School in Fort Greene.

Were the family to move, the federal-style mansion on the Upper East Side would have its first mayoral resident since late in the Giuliani administration when Rudy moved out during a fight with his estranged wife, Donna Hanover.

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg never lived in the official residence, opting to remain in his East 79th Street town house.

During his 12 years in office, Bloomberg used the mansion for tours and public events.

Nearly every mayor since Fiorello H. La Guardia has lived in the residence, which was built in 1799, since "the Little Flower" called it home in 1942.

In addition to Dante, de Blasio lives in the three-story row house on 11th Street in Park Slope with his wife, Chirlane McCray, and daughter, Chiara, who attends college in California.
