Dozens of protesters call for cancellation of NBC's 'Stars Earn Stripes'

About three dozen protesters gathered at Rockefeller Plaza Monday to ask NBC to pull its new show "Stars Earn Stripes," which puts celebrities through military training exercises.

The protesters, backed by nine Nobel Peace Laureates who sent a letter to NBC asking for the show to be axed, said it glorifies war.

"This is making a reality game out of war, but there's nothing fun about war, there is nothing glamorous about it," said Anna Berlinrut, who is on the board of directors of Military Families Speak Out and helped organize the protest. The protesters brought a petition with more than 17,000 signatures supporting their cause, which they left with a security manager, Berlinrut said.

Nobel Laureate Jody Williams signed the letter to NBC and told amNewYork that the show personifies the "extremely disturbing marriage between Hollywood and the Pentagon."

"We're not seeing the reality of war, we're not seeing what happens to real human being in real war," Williams said.

NBC said the show, which premiered last night, "is about thanking the young Americans who are in harm's way every day."
