DSK and maid reach settlement in civil suit: Reports

Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has reached a settlement in the civil case filed against him by the midtown hotel maid who said he sexually assaulted her, according to published reports.

Strauss-Kahn, 63, and hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo reached the agreement in principle and are set to go in front of a judge next week to finalize it, reports said. The settlement's details were unknown Thursday.

Strauss-Kahn was indicted on sexual assault charges after Diallo, a housekeeper at the Sofitel hotel, accused him of assaulting her in a hotel room in May 2011.

Strauss-Kahn, once seen as a front-runner to become France's president, resigned from the International Monetary Fund amid the charges.

The case fell apart after prosecutors began to question Diallo's credibility, and all charges were dropped. But Diallo had already filed a civil suit.

Strauss-Kahn has long said that though a "consensual" encounter took place, it was "a moral failure" he will regret forever.
