Ex 'Spider-Man' director says she's owed $300,000 in royalties

With its official Broadway opening set for Tuesday, “Spider-Man’s” producers are snarled in a new web of trouble.

The union representing Julie Taymor, who was fired as the troubled show’s director in March, says she hasn’t been paid in years and is owed about $300,000. An arbitration claim was filed against the show’s producers Thursday, according to the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.

“Her work is on the stage and she has not and is not being paid for it,” said Laura Penn, the union’s executive director, in an interview with amNewYork Thursday. Penn said Taymor had not received royalty payments since the show began previews in November.

Mara Buxbaum, a spokeswoman for Taymor, echoed Penn’s remarks. “By them not giving her royalties, they’re not paying her for all the years of work that she’s put into the show,” Buxbaum said of the show’s producers.

Taymor is still listed as the show’s director and co-writer. Her replacement, Philip Wm. McKinley, is listed as a “creative consultant.”

A spokesman for the show declined to comment.

After months of delays and several actors’ injuries, “Spider-Man” is scheduled to open with an altered storyline and new songs.

Buxbaum said she was unsure if Taymor would attend opening night.
