Florida man recovering after naked man bit off pieces of his face

A Florida man is trying to recover after losing chunks of his face during a gruesome attack over the weekend.

A Miami police officer shot dead a naked man who was found inexplicably gnawing on another naked man's face in a pedestrian walkway of a major highway on Saturday afternoon, according to reports.

The Miami Herald, which has its office nearby, said a cop shouted at the attacker to back away. One witness said the man responded with a growl, with pieces of flesh still in his mouth.

The officer shot the man once after he ignored the order, and shot several more times when he continued tearing apart the other man's face.

Miami cops have not released the names of the two men, or of the officer who shot the alleged attacker dead.

The victim is reportedly in critical condition. Spokesmen from the police department and hospital did not return calls for comment Monday.
