Gay rights activists rally in Stonewall to cheer DOMA decision

Edith Windsor's victory lap following the Supreme Court's decision ended Wednesday evening at the birthplace of the gay rights movement.

Hundreds of LGBT New Yorkers and supporters rallied outside the Stonewall Inn to cheer on Windsor after the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act.

Windsor, 84, said she couldn't have taken up the fight against DOMA if it weren't for the activists who came before her.

"To all the gay people and their supporters who cheered me on, thank you, thank you, thank you," she said, to a chant of "Edie, Edie."

Those who came out, including City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, said Windsor joined the ranks of other pioneering civil rights icons such as Rosa Parks and Harvey Milk.
