If it wasn't for taxes, a lot of us wouldn't have the need to drink

A full 19% of men -- and 15.5% of women -- would be willing to give up alcohol if it meant not having to do their taxes. Only 13.6% of guys -- but 15% of women -- would forgo their favorite food if doing so gave them a pass from the painful calculus of earnings and expenses.

The online survey that discovered these preferences was performed between Feb. 25 and March 18 by Manilla.com. The survey, which will be released next week, also found that:

36% of respondents kept closer track of their spending as a result of tax changes this year.

50% of people aged 18 to 23 finished filing in February.

39% of all respondents filed their taxes in the month of March.

24% of respondents didn't expect to get a refund.

42% planned to use their check from Uncle Sam to pay bills or credit card debt.

11% planned to buy a big item or vacation.

23% planned to save whatever money they receive.
