Visitors to the Met will continue to pay (or not pay) for admission.
A New York State Supreme Court judge ruled in favor of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, saying the famed museum didn’t violate its lease with the city by posting a suggested entry price of $25.
Two lawsuits, one filed in 2012 and one filed this year, claimed that the museum’s 1878 lease with the city requires the Met to allow visitors in for free five days per week.
In the decision released yesterday, the judge wrote that “all members of the public can afford to visit the museum ...”
“The Met is delighted with the ruling and trusts this decision ... guarantees fairness and access for visitors,” the museum said in a statement yesterday.
