Luis "Baby" Ortiz, the man accused of trying to gun down a Brooklyn cop last month, pleaded not guilty in the shooting Monday.
Ortiz, 21, is charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting officer Kevin Brennan in the head as he responded to a call of shots fired at an East Williamsburg housing complex on Jan. 31.
Brennan, 29, was released from the hospital earlier this month, but suffered mild brain damage and partial loss to his peripheral vision, according to doctors. He has since been promoted to detective-investigator and attended Monday's arraignment.
Ortiz, who faces 25 years to life in prison, is scheduled to appear in court again on April 16. His attorney, Eric Poulos, complained Monday that his client was being "treated worse," according to reports, because the victim was a police officer.
