Man nabbed with bottled heroin at Newark Airport

It's an endless source of wonder how hobbyists manage to shoehorn entire ships into liquor bottles.

Now, a Colombian national nabbed at Newark Liberty International Airport coming off a flight from Medellin, Colombia, stands accused of trying to smuggle nearly 25 pounds of heroin, much of it packed into four bottles of Royal Salute Scotch.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers selected Wilfer Bohorquez Rojo, 53, a resident of Miami, for a random baggage check Saturday and discovered heroin concealed in packages of plastic flags and elsewhere, prompting a more thorough search of his two suitcases. Then they opened the Scotch bottles, which did not contain the "stunningly good blend" of spirits as described in Whiskey Magazine, but rather heroin.

Bohorquez Rojo was turned over to agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. He will be tried on federal narcotics-smuggling charges by the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey.

Authorities placed the street value of the heroin at $700,000.
