The Mets apparently are desperate to maximize their return on a Carlos Beltran deal.
The club has apprised teams of its willingness to pick up the remainder of the outfielder’s salary, ESPNNewYork.com reported, citing a source close to one of the other teams.
Such a move would ensure a better haul of prospects in return.
Beltran, in the final season of a seven-year, $119 million contract, would be owed about $6 million if he’s traded at the July 31 deadline, the website reported.
“From what I gather, they are asking a lot for him because they are willing to pick up all of his salary,” the source told the site.
The possible suitors in a Beltran deal include the San Francisco Giants.
