A toddler was hospitalized and his mother was being questioned Thursday by police after witnesses said she threw the boy down a flight of stairs at a Bronx subway station.

The mother was spotted pushing the 2-year-old boy, who was still buckled into his stroller, down the stairs at the 149th Street-Grand Concourse station around 2:40 p.m., an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The boy was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition with cuts to his face and head.

The mother, who was not immediately identified, was taken to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center for a psychiatric evaluation, the spokeswoman said. Police were questioning the mother, but it was unclear if charges would be filed.
