Mother of slain baby speaks on shooting

The mother of the 16- month-old boy fatally shot in Brownsville stood up for her son's father, who has been arrested on drugs and weapons charges, speaking to reporters Tuesday.

"My baby's father, it's not his fault. It's just a lot," Cherise Miller, 20, told ABC/7. "I don't know what to say right now. I just want to say thank you, and I wish my son was still here." The baby, Antiq Hennis, was shot Sunday shortly after 7:15 p.m. in a stroller being pushed by his father, Anthony Hennis, 22, who has been uncooperative with investigators. Police say he was the intended target and that they are still on the hunt for the shooter.

According to Miller, Hennis had picked up Antiq at her Riverdale Avenue home and was crossing Livonia Avenue when four gunshots rang out. One bullet struck the baby on the left side of the head, while the others tore through the stroller. The child was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital. "The ambulance came and that was it. I got in the ambulance," Miller said, according to ABC/7. "My son was breathing. And I just saw the blood coming out. There was a lot of blood."
