New Taxi chief looks to improve service in the boroughs

He’s more of a straphanger than a taxi rider, but since he was appointed to head the Taxi & Limousine Commission in March, David Yassky, 46, has been trying to get up to speed on the industry.
amNewYork recently got the Brooklynite’s take on his new job and more.

What needs improvement?
“We could do a lot more for service outside of Manhattan ... to make it more uniform and predictable. We are going to look at how we can expand on-street access (through livery stands at malls, shopping centers or subway stations).”

What taxi apps would you like to see?
“I’d like to see where there is a vacant taxi looking for fares right at that moment.”

How are you liking the job?
“I’m having a total ball. If you are a diehard New Yorker, this is an industry that’s at the heart of New York.”
 
Do you take cabs often?
“No, they are often a luxury item. ... But I hailed one last night.”

What do you do in your spare time?
“My main hobby is \[spending time with\] my two girls. Also movies and plays. I saw “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” at the Public Theater. I loved it.”
