New York Jets, winning and weary at 5-1, get timely bye week

The bye week could not come at a better time for the 5-1 Jets.

Cornerback Darrelle Revis said yesterday he plans to stick around and rehab his sore hamstring the entire week. The defense, which shut people down the previous four weeks, could use a blow, too, after allowing Denver’s league-worst rushing offense 145 yards on the ground. Even Revis was beaten on Demaryius Thomas’ touchdown catch over the middle.

Recall, too, that were it not for Renaldo Hill’s pass interference call on Santonio Holmes at the 1, the Jets would have left Invesco Field with a loss on Sunday. But Holmes was good enough to get position on Hill, who tugged on Holmes’ face mask and set up the go-ahead touchdown by LaDainian Tomlinson for a 24-20 win.

“That’s championship football,” wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery said. “Championship teams find a way to win games like this when it’s looking dark. And it looked very dark in the fourth quarter.”

Now, the franchise has a week to think about a future they hope will end up at the Super Bowl in Dallas in February.
