Number of alternate-side parking streets to be reduced
Finally, some parking relief for the city’s drivers.
The City Council on Thursday passed a bill that may reduce the number of alternate-side-of-the street parking days. Under the legislation, community boards get the option to have one less day of alternate-side parking in their districts if they keep a high street cleanliness rating for two consecutive years.
Another council bill passed would allow New Yorkers to search an online database for street closures and for where parking is temporarily suspended because of shutdowns.
“It is often true that less is more, and right now New Yorkers need less burdensome parking regulations to make life a little easier,” Council Speaker Christine Quinn said in a statement.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is expected to sign the bills into law.
