A New York City teenager accused of tossing his 9-year-old neighbor off a five-story building says it was an accident, and claims the only reason he didn't call 911 afterward was that his "brain froze."

Seventeen-year-old Carmine Aska told the Daily News in an interview at a city jail Friday that the boy's fall was "unintentional."

He claimed he tried to rescue the boy as he dangled over the edge.

Police say fall victim Freddy Martin told them Aska dragged him to the roof and threw him off.

The New York Post reports that the badly injured boy recently emerged from an induced coma.

Aska told the Daily News that after watching Freddy fall, he fled to an aunt's house and planned to "go to sleep from the anxiety."
