NYC to reduce number of street fairs
New York City plans to reduce the number of street fairs and their hours.
The mayor’s Office of Citywide Event Coordination and Management tells the Daily News it’s taking steps to make street fair hours shorter and reduce their numbers by combining some of them.
The city says it’s considering the measures in response to complaints from communities that the fairs create traffic congestion, noise and litter.
Mort & Ray Productions, which plans to run 14 fairs this year, tells the paper it understands the complaints. It says it has no problems with reducing the size of the fairs but it doesn’t’ want to see the number of fairs slashed.
