President Barack Obama is expected at a midtown Manhattan fundraiser Thursday evening, where he will schmooze with donors giving to congressional Democrats.
The event is set to begin shortly after 6 p.m. at the St. Regis Hotel on East 55th Street. About 185 guests are expected, including 21 of New York's 26 Democratic members of Congress. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is also on the guest list, according to a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesman.
Reps. Gary Ackerman (D-Roslyn Heights), Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) and Steve Israel (D-Huntington) are each expected to attend. Israel is the chairman for Thursday's event and the national recruiting chairman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is putting on the event.
Obama comes to New York after a midday trip to Buffalo, where he is expected to give a speech on the economy that highlights his administration's achievements and knocks Republicans for "obstructing efforts to rebuild."
Obama is due to arrive in Buffalo at 12:25 p.m. and speak there at 1:45 p.m. He is expected at Kennedy Airport at 4:15 p.m., from where he will travel by helicopter to lower Manhattan.
The trip is Obama's second to New York this year. He gave a speech on financial regulation at Cooper Union in April. Obama visited New York City four times in 2009 and also made trips to West Point and the Albany area.
