Project Glass: Next big thing for Google?

To say technology plays a major role in my life would be an understatement. If it wasn't for the Internet and the rise of online media, I wouldn't have a career.
And my main hobby, photography, is heavily reliant upon the development of digital-imaging technology, software and computers.
Nevertheless, I am sometimes frustrated with the pace of product development in the tech world, where the norm is evolution, not revolution.
This year's hot smartphone is usually the same as last year's, but with a slightly sharper screen and a faster processor.
Yep, newer is usually better, but at the end of the day, the actual experience isn't changing all that much.
One piece of technology, however, that could be a real game changer, is Google's Project Glass.
Project Glass is a Google program aimed at developing augmented reality technology, where information is directly in the field of view on a pair of glasses - like RoboCop or The Terminator.
The reason I'm so excited about Project Glass is that it commercializes an all-new class of product.
The reality is that the vast majority of gadget development these days consists of aping Apple's success in areas like smartphones and tablets.
But Project Glass is all new ground, and possibly the best reason to get excited about Google over the next few years.
Now, I do think society is suffering from information overload.
And I'm not sure that people really need more of it in the form of a constant stream of real-time data, where the only physical effort required for access is opening one's eyes.
But you know what?
I'm sick of taking my phone out of my pocket to check the time and look at a map.
So call me a hypocrite!
They just better make these things look cool.
