Queens man charged in fatal hit-run of food deliveryman
A Chinese restaurant deliveryman was killed Friday night in a hit-and-run accident on a Long Island Expressway service road near Sunnyside, Queens, police said.
New York City police have charged Richard E. Contreras, 28, of Long Island City, Queens, with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in the death of Jiangiu Chen, 52.
Chen had been driving a motor scooter on the service road when Contreras struck him with a 2004 Ford Explorer sometime before 8 p.m. and then drove off, police said. Paramedics took Chen to Bellevue Hospital Center, but it was too late. Cops spotted Contreras' sport utility vehicle shortly afterward a few blocks from the scene of the accident and arrested him.
Contreras was also charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
