Schumer pushes Congress to end FAA furloughs

Sen. Charles Schumer said the furloughs issued for FAA workers will make air travel more of a nightmare and pushed for Congress to act fast.

The veteran New York Democratic senator said the $637 million in cutbacks that began Sunday would create delays of up to 80 minutes at LaGuardia Airport and 50 minutes at John F. Kennedy and Newark International airports.

"These furloughs will turn every day into a blizzard as far as flying is concerned," he said in a statement.

The furloughs will take effect every other week until September and they will affect 50,000 FAA workers, according to Schumer.
