A Brooklyn hospital where a patient died in a waiting room will undergo improvements mandated by a consent decree aimed at settling litigation over conditions there.

The settlement announced Friday calls for conditions at the Kings County Hospital Center to continue to be monitored by a federal judge for five years.

A lawsuit had alleged that psychiatric inpatient units were overcrowded and dangerously unsanitary and that patients were routinely ignored and abused.

In June 2008, Esmin Green, 49, languished for nearly 24 hours before collapsing from a blood clot. She had had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
