Snoop Lion skeptical that rap music will ever accept LGBT: Report
Snoop Lion doesn’t think the rap scene will ever fully accept homosexuality.
In an interview with NME, Snoop claims that Frank Ocean’s success as openly bisexual musician is only possible because “[Ocean’s] a singer. It's acceptable in the singing world, but in the rap world I don't know if it will ever be acceptable because rap is so masculine.”
Still, Snoop said he doesn’t share the rap industry’s alleged homophobia.
"I don't have a problem with gay people. I got some gay homies," he told the magazine. He has previously spoken in support of same-sex marriage.
Recently, LGBT artists and their allies have made great strides in changing the face of the rap and hip-hop industries. Bisexual rapper Azealia Banks has rocketed to fame with lyrics celebrating gay culture, and hip-hop artist Macklemore broke into the Billboard Hot 100 with “Same Love,” a song supporting gay marriage.
Still, Snoop remains skeptical. "It's like a football team," he says. "You can't be in a locker room full of motherf----g tough-ass dudes, then all of a sudden say, 'Hey, man, I like you.' You know, that's going to be tough."
