A Staten Island man is under arrest for allegedly beating his wife to death, police said.

By yesterday evening, officials had not formally charged Gregory Surinaga, 45, who is accused of killing Jodi Surinaga, 42, earlier in the day in a jealous rage.

The couple had been fighting over an alleged infidelity, the Staten Island Advance reported. After trying to choke his wife, Surinaga allegedly beat her on the head with a baseball bat, police said.

The couple's teenage sons called 911 and first responders found their dad allegedly trying to hang himself. They were able to stop him from committing suicide but pronounced Jodi Surinaga dead at the family's Beechwood Place home, police said.

The NYPD declined to comment on reports that the suspect confessed to the killing.

The couple had had marital problems over the last few months and publicly argued, according to published reports.
