Yankees' 7-2 win over Texas Rangers renews hope in fans

Desperate Yankee fans got a much-needed dose of hope yesterday as the Bombers came back from the dead to force a Game 6 against the Rangers.

Facing elimination in the best-of-seven series, the Yankees leaned on starter CC Sabathia, whose solid start delivered them a trip back to Arlington, Texas, tomorrow.

“Teams have come from behind before,” said Dustin Braud, 28, of the Upper East Side. “And one thing is you can never count the Yankees out.”

To chants of “CC” from the crowd, the 6-foot-7 southpaw came through with six solid innings, backed by homers from Nick Swisher, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson.

“CC gave the team a good, professional start, which is what they needed tonight,” said Barry Petchesky, of Deadspin.com.

John Beck, who writes for the blog PinstripeAlley.com, agreed.

“Having Sabathia on the mound relaxes everybody,” Beck said. “You know what you’re gonna get.”

Along with Sabathia, the Yankees’ bats finally came alive, exploding last night for the first time this series.

But if the Yanks want to take the series to Game 7, the starting pitchers must keep coming up big.

“If [starting pitcher Phil Hughes] can give the Yanks six innings of just two or three runs like CC did, the Yankees are going to win the game,” Beck said.

But no matter what happens from here, some fans were just happy to get a win.

“No matter how much money a team pays per player, the talent has to show,” said John Santiago, 60, of Astoria.

“The talent showed up tonight.”
