Nigro's double gives Island Trees win
Kyle Nigro hit a three-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning for No. 3 Island Trees to pull out a 7-6 win over No. 13 Lynbrook Saturday in the deciding Game 3 of the Nassau Class A baseball quarterfinals. James Ragusa had a run-scoring single to bring Island Trees (19-4) within 6-3 in the seventh inning. The win advances Island Trees to its fifth consecutive semifinal appearance. Island Trees will host Garden City in the first game of the best-of-three semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Lynbrook is 14-10.
St. John the Baptist 3, Holy Trinity 2: Kevin McLaughlin scored Joe Longo on a sacrifice fly for the winning run in the sixth inning for No. 4 St. John the Baptist (12-8) in a CHSAA elimination game. Greg Egan struck out seven and allowed seven hits in a complete game for the Cougars, who advance to the semifinal and will play No. 1 St. Dominic at 7 p.m. Monday at Farmingdale State. Longo, John Tanaglia and Anthony McQuade each had two hits in the win.
Floyd 5, Sachem East 4: Lucas Fusco hit a sacrifice fly to score Nick Russo in the bottom of the sixth inning for winning run for Floyd (10-8) in League I, clinching a playoff berth. Mark Tucker's single scored Jonathan Martinez in the fifth to tie the score at 4 for Floyd. Anthony Mondi hit a homer to bring Floyd within 4-3 in the fourth. Fusco's two-run double in the second pulled Floyd within 3-2. Winning pitcher Brandon Buckman threw a complete game and struck out nine.
Patchogue-Medford 3, Ward Melville 2: Tyler Moston went six innings and allowed three hits and struck out five and Dan Tierney came into the game in the seventh with one out and runners on first and third and got a strikeout and pop-up to get the save for Patchogue-Medford (14-4) in League I. The win clinches the League I title for Patchogue-Medford.
Islip 8, Huntington 2: Eric Purchacki went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs and R.J. Going went 3-for-3 with a home run and four runs and Joe Guiliani went 51/3 innings and allowed three hits, two runs and struck out three for Islip (7-11) in League V.
Glenn 11, Mount Sinai 1: Colin Dia allowed one unearned run on three hits while striking out six, Scott Kunz was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run, and John Pierson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Glenn (15-3) over Mt. Sinai (11-7) in League VII.
Mattituck 8, Babylon 2: Tom Ascher went five innings and allowed five hits, one earned run and struck out five and Yianni Rauseo went 2-for-3 with a walk and Greg Siliris went 2-for-4 with a stolen base for Mattituck (14-3) in League VII.
Babylon 6, Mattituck 5: Mike Morrone hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to give Babylon (8-10) a 6-4 lead in League VII. James Quigley scored on a passed ball in the sixth to give Babylon a 5-4 lead. Max Watt went the distance and struck out 10.

Miller Place 10, Sayville 7: Torrie Gallagher was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fifth inning, and Sara Battey was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Miller Place (12-7) over Sayville (12-7) in League VI.
