Police to discuss Nassau home invasions
After at least five home invasions since November in Great Neck and Kings Point, the Kings Point Civic Association and local law enforcement will meet with residents to discuss the issue.
The meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Great Neck will include representatives from the Kings Point, Great Neck and Nassau County police departments.
Police said an intruder has entered through unlocked doors or windows and confronted girls and women, ages 5 to 63.
In one case, a cloth was held to a teenager’s face; in another, a knife was held to the neck of a 61-year-old woman. There may be some kind of sexual aspect to the crimes, police said.
“There’s a lot of fear,” said civic association president Marsha Rotman. “There’s a lot of stuff going on that needs to be addressed.”
Nassau police have increased patrols in the area, offered use of its K9 units and changed the hours of special patrols, Nassau Lt. Kevin Smith said. Residents in the area should turn on exterior lights, set alarms and report suspicious people, he said.
