The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a public meeting on Tuesday on the cleanup of contaminated plumes in West Babylon.

The meeting is being held in conjunction with the state Department of Health and will be held at 7 p.m. at the Wyandanch Senior Citizen Nutrition Center, located at 28 Wyandanch Ave. in Wyandanch.

The contaminated sites are located in an industrial area, 78 and 88 Lamar Street, sites which are owned by Pride Solvents and Chemical Company.

There are two areas of contamination: one a shallow plume that exists above 20 feet down from the ground’s surface, the other a deep plume that runs below 20 feet.

According to the DEC, no “site-related surface water impacts have been identified.”

At the meeting, DEC and DOH staff will describe the contents of a cleanup proposal, called a Proposed Remedial Action Plan.

The DEC is accepting written comments about the proposed plan through Jan. 30.
