A rally scheduled for today in support of Donald Trump’s stalled catering hall on the Jones Beach boardwalk has been canceled because of Tropical Storm Irene.
The state park remains closed because of flooding and other storm damage. But organizer Rafe Lieber said he decided Monday to reschedule the event before he knew if the park would reopen in time.
With so many people without electricity and the storm cleanup continuing, “it just makes sense,” said Lieber of Plainview, founder of the newly formed Alliance to Revitalize Jones Beach, a group that says it has no ties to Trump. “We’ll postpone it until September.”
Lieber had commitments from Trump, eight state legislators and other elected officials to appear.
