Authorities say a pedestrian was killed as he tried to cross a busy central New Jersey highway.

Mercer County prosecutors say the 51-year-old man was struck by a sport utility vehicle just after 10 p.m. Saturday as he tried to cross Route 1 in Lawrence Township. The man, believed to be a Michigan resident, was by himself when the accident occurred, and no other vehicles were involved.

The man's name has not been released, pending notification of relatives.

No charges have been filed in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
