NEW YORK (AP) — Members of a small church that lost its bishop and at least five other members in a New York highway wreck are mourning the dead and praying for survivors.

Members gathered and grieved Sunday at Joy Fellowship Christian Assemblies in the Bronx.

Authorities say Bishop Simon White, his wife, minister Zelda White, and at least four others died when a van flipped over Saturday on the New York State Thruway.

Eight others were hurt in the crash, about 55 miles north of New York City.

State police say the group was headed way to a church event near Schenectady.

Authorities say a blown tire caused the crash.

The church's website says Bishop White founded the church in 1998. He later helped establish affiliate congregations elsewhere in the state.
