Heading into halftime with a slim two-goal lead, Oceanside's boys lacrosse team was in need of a spark. Fortunately for coach Bob Moltisanti, he didn't need to hope for the best, he only needed to look at his roster.

Teammates John Remsen and Chris Hughes totaled 15 points in a game that was broken open during a seven-goal third quarter in a convincing 14-8 victory over host Lynbrook Tuesday in a non-league boys lacrosse opener for both teams.

Oceanside didn't waste any time after the half, scoring four quick goals to begin the scoring spree. Remsen struck first with a goal and finished the third quarter with a second goal and one assist. Nick Sherry tacked on another goal off an assist from Remsen, and John Grassi rounded out the fast-paced scoring with an unassisted goal.

By the time the third quarter ended, Oceanside scored seven goals and took a commanding 13-6 lead.

Lynbrook managed to score four goals in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit that was created in the first half and was made much bigger in only one quarter.

Moltisanti was excited when the team came out seemingly rejuvenated after halftime. He also lauded Hughes for his three-goal, five-assist effort and said he was a key factor in breaking the game open in the second half.

Remsen had four goals and three assists in the game, and Sherry had three goals and two assists. Austin Akner scored two goals, and Luke Schwasnick also scored a goal.

While the high-powered offense gave Oceanside a comfortable lead to work with for the majority of the game, goalkeeper Andrew Failla kept the Sailors in front with 11 saves.

Oceanside faces Friends Academy Thursday. Lynbrook hosts Baldwin Friday.
