Roundup: Schultz wins it for Farmingdale baseball
Vinny Schultz’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Anthony Bonilla and George Calvo to give Farmingdale a 5-4 win over Freeport yesterday in Nassau Conference AA-I baseball. Ian Kornfeld went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and an RBI for Farmingdale (3-3).
Syosset 9, Oceanside 4: Dan Ventricelli went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two RBIs and two runs for Syosset (4-2) in Conference AA-I.
Massapequa 6, Hicksville 2: James Nakashian’s single in the bottom of the third gave Massapequa (5-1) a 2-0 lead in Conference AA-I. Rob Wallace, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, also drove in a run in the third to make it 3-0.
Baldwin 10, Herricks 4: Tom Kelleher hit a three-run homer to give Baldwin a 7-4 lead in the fifth inning and Travis Hylton hit a three-run homer later in the inning for Baldwin (5-1) in Conference AA-II.
MacArthur 3, East Meadow 2: Mike Koslowski’s double in the bottom of the sixth scored Sean Carey and gave MacArthur (6-0) a 3-0 lead in Conference AA-II. Jesse Tuozzo pitched five shutout innings for the win, striking out 10 and allowing three hits.
Plainview JFK 14, Port Washington 5: Gil Doremus went 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and four RBIs to lead Plainview JFK (4-2) in Conference AA-II.
Elmont 12, Hempstead 0: Junior Enrique Sanchez threw his first career no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Kevin Peguero went 3-for-5 with four RBIs for Elmont (7-2) in Countywide. Elmont pitchers have thrown consecutive no-hitters.
Great Neck South 6, Sewanhaka 5: Stephen Ambrosio was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh scoring Dan Schwarz with the winning run for GNS (9-3) in Countywide. Ambrosio also pitched 2 2 / 3 scoreless innings for the win. He came in with one out and the bases loaded in the top of the fifth and induced a double play to end the inning.
Holy Trinity 9, Kellenberg 5: Patrick Madigan went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to give Holy Trinity (6-4) a 7-5 lead in CHSAA.
North Shore 8, Glen Cove 7: Mike Mendelson’s double scored Nico Schinco to win it in the bottom of the seventh for North Shore (6-4) in non-league. Schinco’s RBI double drove in Kenny Daley to tie it at 7.
St. Dominic 5, St. John the Baptist 4: Tom Grillo led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to break a tie at 4 for St. Dominic (6-1) in CHSAA. Reliever Nick Batas worked out of a bases loaded, no-out jam in the top of the seventh with two strikeouts and a fielder’s choice.
St. Anthony’s 11, St. Mary’s 1: Jake Kurz pitched a one-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts to lead St. Anthony’s (5-2) in CHSAA. Joe Cormio and Ben Moyette each had two doubles and two RBIs, and Rich Patrizio went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Floral Park 2, Clarke 1: Samantha Perry scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth to break a tie at 1 for Floral Park (5-3) in a Conference A-I win.
Massapequa 4, Farmingdale 0: Renee Vaiano threw a one-hitter, striking out 11 and walking three for Massapequa (5-4) in Conference AA-I. Alyssa Zinkiewicz went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Sewanhaka 8, Sacred Heart 6: Monique Roberge’s two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth snapped a tie at 6 for Sewanhaka (3-6) in non-league. Michelle Mongiello went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Oyster Bay 8, Roslyn 4: Caroline Kelly went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Danielle Agostinello went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Oyster Bay (8-4) in non-league.
