The renovation of the Old Orchard home at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site in Cove Neck is continuing, and its most recent improvements involve energy efficiency.

Aside from restoring the house’s weathered windows to prevent temperature fluctuation, the museum announced in a recent news release it has also installed energy-efficient LED lighting. The new installation reduces the home’s energy consumption from 50 watts per bulb to 16. The LED bulbs are expected to last for 14 years and and reduce cooling costs because they generate so little heat.

The new lighting is part of a two-phase renovation project that kicked off in December on the Old Orchard home, which belonged to Theodore Roosevelt Jr., son of the former president.

The public can visit the Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard Wednesday through Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. to view the galleries and experience new lighting. Entrance to the museum, which is located at 20 Sagamore Hill Rd., is free. For more information, call 516-922-4788, or visit the website at nps.gov/sahi.
