Savino scores on wild pitch in WB win
Pinch runner Heather Savino scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh as West Babylon beat Centereach, 7-6, Tuesday in a Suffolk League III/IV softball crossover. West Babylon (11-2) trailed 6-4 going into the inning. Taylor Webb's double scored Brianna Scotto to tie the score at 6 after Scotto's RBI triple made it 6-5. Webb finished 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Commack 5, Sachem North 4: Shayna Burgess' single in the bottom of the fourth broke a tie at 4 and put Commack (10-3) ahead for good in a League I/II crossover. Nicole Deissler went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and Shannon Haller was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run.
Bay Shore 5, Ward Melville 0: Taylor McGowan pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead Bay Shore (14-0) in a League I/II crossover. Nicole Marzillo went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Courtney Syrett went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Coach Jim McGowan earned his 650th career win.
Longwood 17, Central Islip 2: Andrea Klarman was 3-for-3 with three solo home runs and sophomore Noel Lent was 3-for-4 with two home runs and a career-high six RBIs for Longwood (9-4) in a League I/II crossover. Stephanie Keller was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Connetquot 12, Brentwood 0: Chelsea LaMarca and Kaitlin Mulenforth combined on a three-hitter to lead Connetquot (10-3) in a League I/II crossover. Kelly Miller went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Erin Massmann was 3-for-3 with four runs and two RBIs and Nicole Weiczorek went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. The win was the 400th for coach Tom Anziano.
Newfield 3, Riverhead 2: Katie Engel's single in the top of the sixth drove in Val Scura to give Newfield (3-10) a 3-1 lead in a League III/IV crossover.
Half Hollow Hills West 3, Smithtown East 1: Alyssa Bitsimis threw a no-hitter with five strikeouts and one walk for Hills West (11-1) in a League III/IV crossover. Dianna Kontos went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Her two-run double in the bottom of the third broke a tie at 1.
North Shore 3, Glen Cove 2: Jackie Gioia's single drove in Alley Grande with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for North Shore (9-1) in Conference A-II. Brooke Losee's two-out base hit in the bottom of the sixth scored Lexi Marshall to tie it at 2. Christine Castiglione's solo homer gave North Shore a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
New Hyde Park 4, Clarke 0: Kristen Hickey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for New Hyde Park (5-5) in Conference A-I. Christina Burkey stole second, third and home in the top of the third to make it 4-0.
Valley Stream South 8, Division 7: Briana Schippell singled in Angela Aragona from third with one out in the bottom of the 10th to win it for VSS (4-6) in Conference A-II. Schippell singled home Aragona and Christie DeMarco with one out in the sixth to tie it at 7. DeMarco was 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.
Roslyn 3, Mineola 2: Ally Sheinbaum singled in Rachel Murillo from third in the third to put Roslyn (2-8) up 3-1 in Conference A-III. Roslyn scored all three runs in the third, highlighted by Mariel Chase's solo home run.
