School vote: 'We vote no every year' in Syosset

Syosset resident Pat Crispi, 70, said he planned to vote against his school district’s budget on his way home tonight. “We vote 'no' every year,” he said.

Crispi, a business owner, lamented a cluster of “for sale” signs outside homes in his neighborhood and blamed increasing taxes. He also said school district superintendents are overpaid. “People are leaving,” he said. “Our school budgets are always going up.”

The proposed $192,353,912 budget is 1.86 percent higher than the current budget, with a tax levy that would rise 2.69 percent. The budget includes a salary freeze on contracted raises for teachers and the reduction of five administrators.
